How do you invite pro football players to participate in a brain health study? Let's start with the basics. We're human, afterall.

Legacy and History

For a while now, we've been hearing about issues surrounding brain health of pro football players. In this study by the University of Pittsburgh, they wanted to recruit former athletes to participate in this study that may help us understand this issue better.

When I set out to design the landing page, one of the first things I understood were the individual lives of these athletes as human lives first. Real humans who, outside of the fame of being a professional athlete, have families and loved ones that care for them.

Cross Section of Culture

I wanted to respect the place these men were in. They carry an important legacy out on the gridiron, and yet, still incredibly human, with family and loved ones.

When these players look at this landing page, I wanted them to be seen and heard. So I used an image style that harkened back to masculine images, yet also describe legacy. And I also wanted to make sure they understood that it was a well respected university that was behind all this, so the higher learning motif is also here and becomes represented in the styling of the elements and the layout.
